The Daily Struggle: The "Muddled" Wardrobe:

Deuteranopia (green-blindness) is the most common form of colorblindness. Instead of seeing a vibrant spectrum, "Deutans" see a world where greens, reds, and browns converge into a single yellowish-tan hue. In terms of fashion, this makes "earth tone" palettes a nightmare. Trying to distinguish between a forest green sweater and a chocolate brown jacket is nearly impossible without help, often leading to accidental "monochrome" outfits that aren't actually monochrome.

The Genetics: The Most Common Hand-Me-Down Like Protanopia, Deuteranopia is X-linked recessive.

  • It sits on the same neighborhood of the X chromosome.

  • Because it’s recessive, a woman needs two copies of the mutated gene (one from each parent) to be colorblind herself. This is why roughly 8% of men but only 0.5% of women struggle with this red-green confusion.
